第6回知半アートプロジェクト セシル・アンドリュ展 「沈黙の鼓動」
Cecile Andrieu 「IMPULSION SILENCIEUSE:SILENT PULSE」
注目のフランス人女流アーティスト：セシル・アンドリュと江戸時代の庄屋の家「知半庵」が交差するアート。菅沼家の古文書や短冊などを使い制作した作品を、部屋の中に埋め込み、野外では17本の木を使った設置アートを展示。庵の内外を巡りながら、自由に体感してください。

SILENT PULSE ***installation art by Cecile Andrieu***

The exhibition is the result of a French artist and her encounter with a traditional Edo Period country home. Utilizing the old written records and books from the 205 year old Suganuma home in central Izu, the artist will create an installation embedded in the tatami floors of the house. Outsiede, in the back woods, she will place objects on 17 trees. The visitors will move around the house then go to the outdoor installation space and experience the confluence between the old and the new; the permanent and the impermanent.

The talk will feature the artist herself, with Chihan’an director Nobuko Awaya and writer/lecturer Sen Naganawa. The concert will feature internationally known shô (traditional Japanese bamboo mouth organ) player Ko Ishikawa.

Profiles
Cecile Andrieu
Born in the north of France and now residing in Japan, Cecile Andrieu is most interested in how words interact with space. She uses the actual “words” of shredded dictionaries and newspapers as material for her works, resulting in quietly profound three-dimensional works. She first arrived in Japan in 1982. After studying Japanese, she then researched concepts of traditional and modern Japanese space at Tokyo University. She got her PhD from Sorbonne University researching the theme of space, words and how they affect the human. Since the early 1980’s she has exhibited in both Europe and Japan, and this year she has taken part in an exhibition in China and Spain.
Sen Naganawa
For seventeen years since 1994, he was curator at the Nizayama Forest Art Museum (a museum situated deep in the countryside of Toyama Prefecture) where he curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art. This museum is housed in an early 20th century hydroelectric power station—the kind that is ubiquitous throughout Japan—and the spatial attributes of this building lend themselves to stunningly dynamic exhibitions. Sen Naganawa is known for his understanding of the artists and their métier, and his ability to convey that understanding to the local government-managed museum. He worked with Cecile Andrieu on an exhibition in 2010. That same year, his museum was awarded the Chikiki Sôzô Grand Prize. Presently, he works as a freelance curator, writer and lecturer.
Ko Ishikawa
Born in Tokyo, he began studies of the shô (the traditional Japanese mouth organ with 17 bamboo pipes, used in gagaku court music) from 1990. He has mastered the repertory of both traditional gagaku and contemporary music, including improvisation. Much in demand by both Japanese and foreign musicians, he often collaborates with film and visual artists and also composes. For the Izu Chihan’an concert, Ko Ishikawa has composed a new kagura-uta (kagura is the sacred music from Shintoism) piece. He will also perform on the u, a rare bass shô that was used in Japan during the 8th century but is no longer extant. The installation using seventeen trees in the Chihan’an garden reflects the 17 bamboo pipes of the shô.
